PASTOR’S COLUMN

This Sunday’s first reading and Gospel speak of humility.  Humility allows us to see each other and ourselves honestly, as neither more or less than what we are.  Because we see the worth of our lives and those of our neighbors, we are not led by pride to either oppress or ignore those lives.  Rather, humility leads us to serve those lives.  Humility keeps us from being fooled by appearances, and led to pay more attention to those who are more rich, famous or powerful.  Instead we respect and serve the small and lowly we don’t determine their value. And neither does the law.

Jesus says in the gospel “When you have a reception, invite beggars and the crippled, the lame and the blind.  You should be pleased that they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just.”  Here Jesus is telling us to evaluate today‘s choices in the light of what will happen on the last day.  This applies perfectly to our service of the unborn.  Of anyone we can serve, they are the least able to repay us, or even know of our efforts on their behalf. Doing the work of the pro-life movement is the most selfless of all kinds of love, for we are loving those who cannot love us back We are loving those whom today’s psalm calls the forsaken.  We are imitating God, “The father of orphans” who “gives a home to the forsaken and leads forth prisoners to prosperity.” (From Priests for Life

In the Gospel today, Jesus warns us not to give in hopes of repayment, but to give open-handedly to the poor and needy.  That sort of giving mirrors the bountiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed!
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind.”

DICKINSON PARISHES

We have been asked by some on the current status of (Rev.) Norman J. Dukart.  His status remains the same as it has been since March 20, 2002, when he was suspended from all public ministry indefinitely.  The many restrictions included no public celebration of the sacraments and no wearing of clerical dress.  I strongly encourage the public to report to the Chancery of the Diocese of Bismarck any suspected violations of this suspension.  Those with responsibilities for minors are also reminded that the resignation and removal of faculties were necessitated by Dukart’s misconduct with minors.

Most Reverend Paul Zipfel

DID YOU KNOW?  You may notice with our Masses this weekend that there are a few changes.  Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion will now wait at the sanctuary steps until after the priest and deacon have received the Eucharist.  Then they will come behind the altar to receive from the priest and deacon. The General Instruction to the Roman Missal (162) states, “These ministers should not approach the altar before the priest has received Communion, and they are always to receive from the hands of the priest celebrant the vessel containing either species of the Most Holy Eucharist for distribution to the faithful.”  It helps to remind us of the distinction between ordained ministry and the laity and to avoid confusion as to the role of each.  Bishops, priests and deacons are the ordinary ministers of the Body and Blood of the Lord.  Lay people are commissioned to assist with this ministry where needed.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS the sick, especially

Yvonne Stockert, Elaine Bares, John Cote, Jeff Bezdicek, Deb Rising, Marge Ternes, Rosemary Lothspeich, Leonard Marquart, Don Wanner (Mary Eva Wanner’s son), Dr. Gregg Kovacs and Eleanor Walter

(Queen of Peace parishioners will be listed for two weeks. Please call the office if a longer time is needed.  All prayer requests, members and non-members will be forwarded to the prayer chain.)

A DRIVER'S PRAYER

O Lord into my hands you have entrusted an instrument f great power.  Give me the grace to drive with care for the lives that are my responsibility, and with thoughtfulness for all who share the roads.  If I am careless, make e watchful, if I am rushed, give me patience, and in all things give me self-control.  Amen

TIME SLIPS AWAY

"If I only had time." - how often it's said.  By each one of us in lives that are led.  In pursuit of a dream or the seeking of fame, in a task to be done or winning a game.  But year after year and day after day, time always, it seems, keeps slipping away!  "If I just had the time, how gladly I'd spend more hours with family or visit a friend.  How great it would be to sit by a brook and write a long letter or read a good book".  But month after month and day after day, time always, it seems, keeps slipping away!  "If I could find the time, I'd help those in need and service to others would soon be my creed." Yes, most of us feel there's much we should do but the minutes fly by and the weeks are too few.  So month after month and day after day, time slides through our fingers and just slips away!  If only we knew, ere we run out of grace, the time we have left to kiss a dear face.  To hold someone's hand who is faithful and true and whisper these words: "My dear, I love you!" For moment by moment and day after day, our lives, just like time, keep slipping away!  John C

Please remember to continue your prayer support for our parishioners and their families who are separated by serving our Country in the military.  May God grant them peace in a world where peace is missing..
