PASTOR’S COLUMN
Today we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the celebration of the
coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, and other disciples.
The following is a reflection on
Pentecost by Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa the preacher to the
papal household.
“Pentecost
was an event in the subjective order, an experience. The shift from
the slave-heart full of fear to the filial heart, brimming with
love, is not something that can happen without the one to whom it
happens being aware of it; it is not the kind of heart transplant
done under general anesthetic!
On the contrary, the experience of the love of God was one of
overwhelming intensity for the apostles: to be loved by God and to
love God in return! They were literally inundated, ‘baptized’ in
love. That was what moved them so much that they were beside
themselves, to such an extent that people thought them drunk (see
Acts 2:13). The sudden change in the apostles cannot be explained
in any other way; it was the fire of divine love itself that flared
up in them…
Every time someone has a genuine, strong experience of the
Spirit, the most vivid memory of the moment that the person retains
is of an intense perception of the Father’s love. Witnessing to this
someone said: ‘All my life long I had felt unloved. The next day,
that feeling vanished entirely. I felt myself immersed in a new
experience of the love of God, and from that day on it has never
left me.’
This is the most beautiful moment of any creature’s life: to
know that one is loved, personally, by God, to feel oneself lifted
to the bosom of the Trinity and to find oneself in the flood of love
that flows between Father and Son, enfolded in their love, sharing
their passionate love for the world. And all of this in one instant,
without any need to think about it or for words to say it.”
God
bless you, Fr. Jeff

My dear sisters and brothers in the Lord,
Many Catholics remember that each Friday
was observed as a day of abstinence from meat. This day was chosen to
commemorate the death of the Lord. The Church still encourages us to make this
day special by offering some form of penitential practice in our lives.
Since we are called upon to contribute to a
more just and peaceful world, I encourage every person in the Diocese of
Bismarck to be morally responsible by offering special prayers and fasting
each Friday for God’s gift of peace in our war torn world, in our families and
in our personal lives.
Your Shepherd, Most Reverend Paul A.
Zipfel
Bishop of Bismarck

CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD) Poverty in
America continues to rise. Nearly 36 million Americans, many working full-time,
are unable to provide for the basic needs of their families. As the body of
Christ, we are bound together, and we share the grief and anxieties of those who
live in poverty. But we can also share the joy and hope that comes from joining
in solidarity to break the cycle of poverty. The CCHD supports self-help
projects of poor and low-income people working together to improve their lives
and their communities. Thank you for giving generously to the CCHD in today’s
collection. If you are a stewardship household, a gift has been given for you.

PRAYER OF BLESSING FOR
FIELDS AND FLOCKS
O God, from the very
beginning of time you commanded the earth to bring forth vegetation,
fruit, and flowers of early kind. You provide the sewer and seed and
give bread to eat. Grant, we pray, that our land, enriched by your
bounty and cultivated by human hands may be fertile with abundant
crops. Then your people, enriched by the gifts of your goodness,
will praise you unceasingly now and for ages unending. Amen

A DRIVER'S PRAYER
O Lord into my hands you
have entrusted an instrument f great power. Give me the grace to
drive with care for the lives that are my responsibility, and with
thoughtfulness for all who share the roads. If I am careless, make e
watchful, if I am rushed, give me patience, and in all things give me
self-control. Amen
TIME SLIPS AWAY
"If I only had
time." - how often it's said. By each one of us in lives that
are led. In pursuit of a dream or the seeking of fame, in a task to
be done or winning a game. But year after year and day after day,
time always, it seems, keeps slipping away! "If I just had the
time, how gladly I'd spend more hours with family or visit a friend.
How great it would be to sit by a brook and write a long letter or read a
good book". But month after month and day after day, time
always, it seems, keeps slipping away! "If I could find the
time, I'd help those in need and service to others would soon be my creed." Yes,
most of us feel there's much we should do but the minutes fly by and the
weeks are too few. So month after month and day after day, time
slides through our fingers and just slips away! If only we knew, ere
we run out of grace, the time we have left to kiss a dear face. To
hold someone's hand who is faithful and true and whisper these words:
"My dear, I love you!" For moment by moment and day after day,
our lives, just like time, keep slipping away! John C
Please remember to
continue your prayer support for our parishioners and their families who
are separated by serving our Country in the military. May God grant
them peace in a world where peace is missing..
